8 Useful Viber Features Everyone Should Know

With over 200 million active users, Viber has become one of the best apps for instant messaging. The app comes with tons of fun features like emoticons, stickers, doodling options, and more.

Whether you’re an existing Viber user or you’re planning to download it, here are eight exciting Viber features you should check out.

1. Change background in viber

Viber has a light design with purple tones by default, but you can change it! The app lets you choose between Classic, Dark Blue and Black themes. To switch to the dark version of Viber, all you need to do is tap on More > Settings > Appearance.

If you prefer something a little more fun, Viber lets you choose a background image for your chats.

Below Theme, you have the option to change the default background. Tap on that, and set one of the many default backgrounds that Viber comes with. You can also choose an image or take a picture with your phone.

However, these options will change the background image for all your chats in the app. Additionally, you can have a different background picture for each contact.

To do this, first open the chat where you want to change the background. Swipe left and tap Background. From there, you can choose a default background or an image on your phone.

2. Block/Unblock Viber Contacts

If you want to block incoming chats/calls from a specific contact on Viber, simply open the chat of the person you want to block, swipe left and tap Block this Contact. To unblock a contact, you have to open their chat, swipe left and tap Unblock this contact.

If you can’t find the contact you’ve blocked, go to More > Settings > Privacy > Block List. Here you will see a list of all the contacts whom you have blocked.

3. Clear, Delete and Mute Viber Chats

Sometimes, when we are part of a group chat that sends too many messages or media files, it can really clutter up our phone storage. Viber allows you to remove all content from your chats without deleting the conversation thread.

All you have to do is open the chat you want to clear, swipe left and tap Clear chat contents. This will delete all media files from that chat.

delete message/chat

Have you ever sent a message to the wrong person by mistake? We’re sure most of us have done this at some point. But, don’t worry as Viber allows you to delete your messages one by one.

To delete a specific message, tap and hold the message you want to delete. From the menu that pops up, tap Delete and then Delete for Everyone. Keep in mind that the other person will know you deleted a message, but they won’t know what the message was.

You can also delete messages that someone has sent you the same way you can delete your own messages. But these messages are only deleted from your phone.

If you want to delete the entire conversation, go to the desired chat, swipe left, and tap Delete This Chat.

mute chat

If you don’t want to delete a conversation, but you don’t want to be a part of it either, you can mute specific chats without anyone knowing.

The mute chat option will not notify you about any incoming messages or calls from that chat, and no one will know! You can mute a conversation for a specific amount of time or until you turn it back on. To do so, open the thread you want to mute, swipe left and tap on Mute chat.

4. Hide your online status and disable receipts

If you don’t want others to know you’re online and have read their messages, all you have to do is set your app preferences.

Go to More > Settings > Privacy, and you’ll find toggles that allow you to turn off online and seen status.

5. Create group chats on Viber

In addition to private one-on-one conversations, Viber also lets you create group chats, make group voice and video calls, making it an excellent app for group projects if you’re a student.

To do this, you must first create a group chat. Tap the chat bubble in the bottom right of the app, then tap New Group. You’ll get a list of all your Viber contacts, and you can tap on them to add them to the group.

After that, you can choose your group name and profile picture and choose whether you want a standard group chat or a community. Once you do, click on the checkmark in the top right corner of the screen, and you’ll have created your group.
